Jela Duncan returns to Duke football, re-enrolls for spring semester

Running back Jela Duncan is back with the Blue Devils after sitting out the 2014 season serving a one-year suspension from the University.

Duncan has re-enrolled at Duke for the spring semester and will have two years of NCAA eligibility remaining, beginning with the 2015 season.

A native of Charlotte, the 5-foot-10 tailback led the Blue Devils in rushing as a sophomore in 2013, but missed Duke's appearance in the Chick-fil-A Bowl after violating the University's academic policy. Duncan was not enrolled in classes in the spring and fall semesters of the 2014 academic year while serving the suspension.

As part of a multi-headed rushing attack, Duncan helped the Blue Devils to the ACC Coastal division title in 2013, rushing for 562 yards on 5.0 yards per carry. The punishing runner returns to a similar Duke backfield in 2015, joining feature back Shaquille Powell, speedster Shaun Wilson and Joseph Ajeigbe.

In addition to Duncan, the Blue Devils welcomed three newcomers to campus for the spring semester, including former Tennessee tight end Daniel Helm. The freshman caught six passes for 37 yards in his only season as a Volunteer, and will sit out the 2015 campaign in accordance with NCAA transfer rules.

Incoming freshmen Marquies Price and Reno Rosene graduated from high school a semester early and have enrolled at Duke, where they will be able to participate in the Blue Devils' spring practices. A 6-foot-6 defensive lineman, Price forced five fumbles and racked up 76 tackles in his final two seasons at Peach County High School in Fort Valley, Ga. At 6-foot-7 and 325 pounds, Rosene is pegged as the No. 48 offensive tackle in his recruiting class.
