Three former Blue Devils are headed to Indianapolis looking to bolster their pro prospects—and no, Duke hasn't already punched a ticket to the Final Four.
Wide receiver Jamison Crowder and offensive linemen Laken Tomlinson and Takoby Cofield have each received an invitation to participate in the 2015 NFL Scouting Combine. The event will take place Feb. 20-23 in Indianapolis and will offer the trio of former Blue Devils an opportunity to improve their draft stock.
A 5-foot-9 speedster, Crowder put up another 1,000-yard season in his final year in Durham after setting the school record for single-season receiving yards in 2013. The Monroe, N.C., native could be a factor on special teams at the next level, as he returned a pair of punts for scores in 2014, including a 68-yard scamper in the Hyundai Sun Bowl. NFLDraftScout.com slots Crowder as the 24th-ranked wide receiver prospect in April's NFL draft, projecting him as a mid-round selection.
Tomlinson and Cofield anchored Duke's talented offensive line that only allowed only 13 sacks and was first in the nation with only 41 tackles for loss allowed on the season. The Blue Devil rushing attack averaged 181.6 yards per game on the ground. Tomlinson served as a team captain and started all 52 games of his career after redshirting in his first year in Durham. Cofield ended his Blue Devil career with a string of 42 consecutive starts.
Crowder and Tomlinson will both play in the Reese's Senior Bowl Jan. 20.
Tomlinson is projected as third-round pick in this year's draft by NFLDraftScout.com, which has the 6-foot-3, 330-pound lineman listed as its fifth-best offensive guard prospect. Cofield is currently rated the 31st-best offensive tackle in this year's draft class by NFLDraftScout.com and is projected to go undrafted, but that could change with a strong performance at the combine and the NFLPA Game, which has also invited Cofield.
Redshirt junior safety Jeremy Cash announced yesterday that he would remain in Durham for one final season rather than forgo his remaining year of eligibility and declare for this year's NFL draft. He is currently ranked as the second-best strong safety prospect in 2016 by NFLDraftScout.com.
