Semi Ojeleye has decided to transfer from Duke, the team announced Sunday in a press release.
The sophomore had appeared in six of Duke's eight games so far this season, averaging 3.0 points and 2.3 rebounds per game. The Ottawa, Kan., native had played 10.5 minutes per contest, but has slipped in the rotation with the additions of Jahlil Okafor and Justise Winslow as well as the improved play of Marshall Plumlee.
“We want to thank Semi and his family for their commitment to the Duke program for the last year and a half,” Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski said in the release. "He has been an excellent student and a great representative of our school and basketball program. He has been granted a full release and we definitely wish him the best.”
The decision marks the second December departure for a Duke player in as many years. Last season, Alex Murphy elected to leave Durham for Florida, where he will soon be eligible to contribute for Billy Donovan's Gators.
Ojeleye is expected to transfer to another Division I program, although his destination has not yet been announced.
The No. 2 Blue Devils (8-0) will play their first game without Ojeleye Monday against Elon at 7 p.m. at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
