The Blue Devils may have lost the game Saturday, but for one if its most important players, the loss did not compare to the support of one family member.
Malachi Briggs, the younger brother of running back Shaquille Powell, has been battling cancer since early September with the help of the Duke community.
His condition has improved so much that the seven-year old was able to come watch Powell and the Blue Devils take on Virginia Tech Saturday afternoon at Wallace Wade Stadium, according to his GoFundMe page and multiple reports.
Although Duke lost 17-16, Powell had a decent game, rushing for 34 yards on 11 carries and busting off a few nice runs in the first quarter. And although his team lost, Powell probably is much happier that his brother was well enough to travel to watch him play and that Briggs' condition is improving.
According to the GoFundMe page, Briggs' tumor is shrinking and he will receive more chemotherapy Monday.
