Duke legend Steve Wojciechowski slaps floor to motivate new Marquette squad

Duke legend Steve Wojciechowski perfected the floor-slap as a player and made it a popular trend throughout his time on the Blue Devil bench as an assistant and associate coach.

He was at it again Thanksgiving night in his new position, head coach of Marquette.

With the Golden Eagles in a second-half battle against Georgia Tech at the Orlando Classic in Disney, the former fiery point guard used his famous floor-slap to inspire his team, according to Gary Parrish of CBS Sports.

Although video is currently not available, it will almost certainly appear soon.

Wojciechowski made the floor-slap an art form in his time at Duke and earned National Defensive Player of the Year honors as a senior in 1998.

Although the video is not up from Thursday's game, we can give you an idea of what it looked like a la the Duke-North Carolina game in Wojciechowski's senior season. Fast forward to 1:30.30 to get the full experience:

As an assistant and associate head coach, Blue Devil players tried to emulate the motivational technique, but it even became more famous for Duke opponents to slap the floor against the Blue Devils.

A famous instance came when then-No. 25 Miami dominated then-No.1 Duke Jan. 23, 2013.

The floor-slap is normally cited as one of the reasons common fans dislike Duke and if Wojciechowski keeps it up and has the same impact he had in Durham with Marquette, the feelings could spread.

The Golden Eagles, who suffered two early-season losses to then-No. 20 Ohio State and Omaha Nebraska, would narrowly defeat Georgia Tech 72-70.
