After starting the season 3-0 for the first time in 20 years, perhaps wearing throwback helmets Saturday is a symbol of Duke's resurgence as a program.
The Blue Devil football equipment twitter account unveiled the old-school helmets that will be worn for Saturday's 12:30 p.m. home contest against Tulane.
The white helmets feature blue script letters that spell out Duke and an old-school blue stripe down the middle.
The full uniform is to be unveiled tomorrow, and could also be an old-school throwback, according to multiple reports.
The decision to wear the antique-looking lids comes during a season that has featured three new uniforms—which were released in July—that pay tribute to the uniforms worn by the 1989 Duke team.
The 1989 squad went 8-4, won a share of the ACC title and was honored during the Blue Devils' season-opening 52-13 romp of Elon.
Duke will look to continue trying to live up to the team's success Saturday in its final nonconference game and hope that the throwbacks continue to coincide with the team's success.
