With less than 48 hours to go until National Signing Day, the Duke coaching staff is hoping to make a splash with the potential commitment of one of the most talented receivers in this year’s class.
Fort Lauderdale, Fla., wide receiver Trevon Lee will announce his college decision tonight at 9 p.m. on WQAM Radio. The senior, who is ranked No. 235 in the Class of 2014 ESPN300, will decide between Duke and Vanderbilt. It is unclear how the recent departure of now-Pennsylvania State head coach James Franklin has affected Lee’s recruitment.
The Cardinal Gibbons High School product is rated a four-star prospect by ESPN. Last fall, Lee reeled in 48 catches for 743 yards and five touchdowns during his senior season. He garnered All-Broward County Second Team Honors from the Sun-Sentinel and helped lead Gibbons to an appearance in the Florida regional quarterfinals during an 8-4 season.
Should Lee commit to taking his talents to Durham, he would be the fourth four-star prospect in this year’s class.
Head coach David Cutcliffe had the chance to make a final impression on Lee this past weekend, when Lee made the trip up to Durham for his official visit. This was the final official visit that Lee made to any school before tonight’s announcement.
Before narrowing down his college choices, Lee held offers from a number of top programs, including Mississippi, Stanford and California.
Lee’s heavy recruitment comes as no surprise—Blue Devil coaches have been tirelessly focusing their efforts in South Florida since David Cutcliffe arrived six seasons ago. Other players from the area that already hold verbal commitments to Duke are quarterback Nicodem Pierre, defensive tackle Edgar Cerenord and wide receiver Chris Taylor.
In total, Duke has amassed 17 verbal commitments for its 2014 recruiting class thus far. The commits will sign their National Letters of Intent on National Signing Day this Wednesday.
