Duke football injury report vs. Virginia

As the Blue Devils prepare to take on Virginia at Scott Stadium Saturday at 3:30 p.m., Duke released its weekly injury report. Here’s a rundown of the players are listed on the injury report this week:

PROBABLE

QB Brandon Connette (lower body)

DT A.J. Wolf (leg)

QUESTIONABLE

WR Johnell Barnes (hand)

OUT

CB Jared Boyd (leg)

LB Kyler Brown (leg)

QB Thomas Sirk (leg)

OUT FOR SEASON

OT Tanner Stone (leg)

DT Jamal Wallace (leg)

Breakdown: After returning from a broken collarbone last weekend and throwing for 295 yards and three touchdowns against Navy, Anthony Boone is not listed on this week's injury report and will make the start Saturday against the Cavaliers. This is a positive sign for the Blue Devils, as Boone apparently experienced no setbacks after throwing a career-high 38 passes against the Midshipmen.

Boone's backup, redshirt junior Brandon Connette is listed as probable and could return to action after missing last week's contest with an ankle injury. With Boone back under center, Connette can return to his role as backup quarterback as well as his role in the team's "phantom" package. It will be interesting to see how he is utilized Saturday against Virginia, especially given the progress he made throwing the ball during his three starts, which could give Duke more flexibility with how they use him and keep opposing defenses honest.

After missing last week's contest against Navy with a broken hand, freshman wide receiver Johnell Barnes is questionable for Saturday's contest. He broke his hand in an altercation with a Duke lacrosse player just three weeks ago, so it would be a surprise to see him on the field against the Cavaliers.

A new addition to this week's injury report is defensive tackle Jamal Wallace, who will miss the remainder of the season after sustaining a leg injury.
