Duke football injury report vs. N.C. Central

As the Blue Devils prepare to take on N.C. Central in the Bull City Gridiron Classic at Wallace Wade Stadium Saturday at 4 p.m., Duke released its weekly injury report. Here’s a rundown of the players are listed on the injury report this week:

OUT

OT Casey Blaser (hand)

CB Jared Boyd (leg)

DE Jordan DeWalt-Ondijo (leg)

LB C.J. France (lower body)

DE Britton Grier (upper body)

QB Thomas Sirk (leg)

WR Jack Wise (upper body)

OUT FOR SEASON

OT Tanner Stone (leg)

Breakdown: No huge surprises on Duke's first injury report of the season.

Defensive end Jordan DeWalt-Ondijo has been rehabbing throughout the summer after having offeseason surgery, but it was unlikely he was going to be able to go for Duke's season-opener against N.C. Central.

The Blue Devils will likely miss C.J. France this week, but another experienced linebacker in David Helton will start in his place. Helton opened the season as a starter in 2012 before ultimately losing the job to France.

Tanner Stone had surgery to repair an ankle injury and will be done for the reason. The Blue Devils are holding out that his fellow offensive lineman, Casey Blaser might be able to return to the lineup, but his injury timetable appears to be a long-term one as well.

The biggest news from Duke's first injury report of the year is not who is on it, but rather who is not. Heading into the Blue Devils' season-opener a year ago, the team listed 15 players on its week 1 injury report, including four projected starters out indefinitely. Duke has remained healthy in camp, and heading into 2013 all but one of the team's starters will be ready to take the field Saturday in the Bull City Gridiron Classic.
