Nolan Smith suffers calf tear at Orlando Summer League

Duke alum Nolan Smith's Summer League run with the Boston Celtics was not a long one.

Generic Script

Smith was in the starting lineup for the Celtics' first contest in the Orlando Summer League against the Orlando Magic, but suffered an injury to his right leg midway through the first quarter and left the game. He managed to score four points on 2-of-3 from the floor and added a steal in five minutes of action.

It was later revealed that Smith had suffered a tear below his calf, but his achilles tendon was not injured.

The injury should keep Smith sidelined for the remainder of Summer League action, but Yannis Koutroupis of Hoopsworld reported that Smith is still likely to receive an invitation to training camp with the Celtics and first-year head coach Brad Stevens.

Smith is still an unrestricted free agent and was invited to participate in Summer League with Boston after spending his first two NBA seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers, who selected Smith with the 21st overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft.
