Reports indicate gun found outside P.J. Hairston's car

Update (4:00 p.m.): A recent update from the Raleigh News & Observer includes a brief statement from Durham Police Department spokesperson Kammie Michael, who stated that one bag of marijuana was found inside the car but a second bag of marijuana and the handgun was found outside the car. She also indicated that the department is not certain whether the gun was Hairston's or if it belonged to either of the car's two passengers, Durham residents Miykael Faulcon and Carlos Sanford.

“We are not saying it belongs to Hairston,” Michael wrote in an email. “I am not sure the owner has been identified. It was found outside the vehicle. It was not found on Hairston.”

The serial number of the Star 9mm handgun was included in the police report, but there is no state gun registry in North Carolina, so it might take some time until the gun's owner is identified.

Hairston is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 6.

Update (1:20 p.m.): You can now read the full police report on CBS Sports, which shows Hairston had a nine milimeter handgun, one magazine of ammo and with 43.2 grams of marijuana.
