Duke student rear-ends C-1 on Campus Drive

A car driven by a student collided with a C-1 bus on Campus Drive Wednesday morning.

The bus was stopped at the intersection of Campus Drive and Maxwell Street at approximately 11:30 am. when the student collided with the rear of the bus, Duke Police Chief John Dailey wrote in an email Monday night.

“The bus was not damaged, [and] the car was towed from the scene,” Dailey said.

Information about the nature of the accident will not be available until the police report is finalized Thursday, wrote Sam Veraldi, Parking and Transportation Services director, in an email.

The accident occurred while students and passengers were unloading the bus, Veraldi said.

“No injuries were reported,” he said. “Everyone was checked [at the scene], and we were all very fortunate that no one was hurt.”

Another bus was dispatched to the intersection and finished the C-1 route while DUPD investigated the accident. The bus involved in the accident was initially sent to the bus depot. But when inspectors determined that the bus was safe, it returned to the C-1 route and was “never taken out of service,” Veraldi noted.
