Duke basketball commit Jabari Parker is getting closer and closer to 100 percent following foot surgery this summer.
And that's bad news for the opponents of his Simeon high school team (Chicago). The 6-foot-8 swingman and No. 2 player in the class of 2013 is now averaging 15.1 points and 7.7 rebounds per game on the season.
On Saturday, Parker tallied 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field to lift Simeon to a 55-53 victory over Southwind (Memphis, Tenn.).
Leading Simeon to an easy 68-39 win over Perspectives-Calumet (Chicago), Paker finished with 26 points, 13 rebounds and four blocked shots.
Simeon—who is the three-time defending state champions—currently has a record of 10-2.
Here are some highlights of Parker, as well as 2014 Duke target Jahlil Okafor, playing in the Cancer Research Classic earlier this month.
Duke signee Semi Ojeleye, meanwhile, has consistently put up gaudy numbers all season. The powerful 6-foot-6 wing's Ottawa high school (Ottawa, Kan.) team is undefeated on the year, and he is averaging 40.6 points per game.
A recent article by Benton Smith of kusports.com describes Ojeleye's choice to sign with Duke, as well as his work ethic and personality.
Fellow Blue Devil signee Matt Jones, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard, scored 12 points Friday, helping his DeSoto high school squad (DeSoto, Tex.) earn a 62-58 double overtime win over Duncanville (Tex.).
DeSoto sits on a 22-1 overall record.
Arguably Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski's top priority in the 2014 class, elite point guard Tyus Jones was in Lexington, Kentucky for an unofficial visit to Kentucky. Jones—the No. 1 player in the class of 2014 according to ESPN—saw the Wildcats get upset at home by Texas A&M.
Kentucky is thought to be coming on stronger in Jones' recruitment. Head coach John Calipari has watched Jones play a number times over the past several weeks.
Jones, a Minnesota product, still has Duke, Michigan State, Ohio State, Kentucky, Kansas, North Carolina, Baylor and Minnesota on his list.
