Duke basketball officially moves to No. 1

After Indiana lost to Butler 88-86 this weekend, it was only a formality until Duke became the top team in the country.

And this week's AP Top 25 Poll has the Blue Devils ranked No. 1, receiving 62 of the 65 first place votes. No. 2 Michigan received the other three.

Indiana dropped down to No. 6 with their loss, with Syracuse, Arizona and Louisville rounding out the top five. North Carolina and N.C. State are No. 23 and No. 25, respectively. That marks only three ACC schools in the top 25, though Miami and Maryland also received a small number of votes this week.

This is the 105th week Duke basketball head coach Mike Krzyzewski has gotten the Blue Devils to the top spot in the rankings, reaching No. 1 in 16 different seasons. The Blue Devils were not ranked No. 1 at all last year, but were ranked No. 1 in the 2010-11 season until a late February loss to Virginia Tech dropped them out.

This marks the 68th week Duke has been ranked No. 1 since the 1997-98 season, 31 weeks more than the next school in the country, North Carolina.

With the ranking, Duke will host Cornell and Elon on back-to-back days at Cameron Indoor Stadium, beginning Wednesday.
