Week 10: Around the ACC

What began as a close game quickly faded as Tahj Boyd launched balls down the field into his receivers’ arms. Clemson totaled the most points of all ACC teams this week, who began play on Thursday evening in south Florida.

Virginia Tech 12, Miami 30

The top team in the Coastal division started off strong with a pair of 16-yard touchdown passes from Stephen Morris in the first quarter. Hokie quarterback Logan Thomas responded with straight and untouched 73-yard touchdown run early in the second, yet Virginia Tech failed to reached the end zone from then on. Despite outgaining the Hurricanes in the air and on the ground, the Virginia Tech’s defense could not keep up with Miami’s quick and efficient offense.

Georgia Tech 33, Maryland 13

“Ground and Pound, Baby” seemed to be the motto for the Yellow Jackets on Saturday. They rushed the ball for a hefty 370 yards, with four different players finding the end zone a total of five times. Quarterback Vad Lee accounted for two of these while throwing the football only twice. Maryland freshman quarterback Shawn Petty found a spark late in the second half with his two touchdown passes, but by then it was too late.

Virginia 33, NC State 6

Virginia made good use of quarterbacks Michael Rocco and Phillip Sims, who started the game with a 1-yard rushing touchdown. Runningback Kevin Parks added 115 yards rushing, sealing the deal with a 31-yard touchdown run in the game’s final minutes. The Wolfpack failed to find any rhythm or chemistry, as quarterback Mike Glennon completed just 50% of his passes and threw three interceptions.

Boston College 14, Wake Forest 28

Quarterback Tanner Price and wide receiver Michael Campanaro are a match made in heaven for Demon Deacon fans. The two connected sixteen times for 123 yards and three touchdowns, all of which came in the first half. The Wake Forest defense was strong as well, taking away three balls from Eagle quarterback Chase Rettig and allowing a mere 12 rushing yards. Alex Amidon was the offensive star for Boston College, hauling in 10 catches for 130 yards and a score.
