The last time Duke football beat Wake Forest was in 1999. The last time the Blue Devils reached a bowl game was 1994.
With a 34-27 victory against the Demon Deacons Saturday, Duke snapped the first of those skids and moved to 4-1 on the season—its best start since 1994. That game story and others are featured in this week's edition of sportswrap, The
Chronicle's monday sports supplement. Here are the rest of the Monday links you should make sure to read:
- Duke announced its $3.25 billion—yes, that's billion with a 'b'—capital campaign this weekend, and of those funds, $250 million are pledged to sports for improvements to Wallace Wade Stadium, Cameron Indoor Stadium and a new track facility, among other projects.
- Also revealed and scooped by The Chronicle is that Duke basketball's Legacy Fund has fullfilled its target goals, with all of the naming rights gone. The last to go were the head coach salary endowment—a $5 million gift—and two of the assistant coach slots, which each ran $1.5 million.
- More impressive than the wins for Duke football, is how they're doing it as the injuries keep on piling up, columnist Chris Cusack writes.
