For the third time this season a Blue Devil has won ACC Defensive Back of the Week. This week’s recipient—senior safety Walt Canty.

Canty earned the right to join teammates Ross Cockrell and Jordon Byas as ACC Defensive Backs of the Week by racking up 14 tackles in Duke’s 42-17 victory against Virginia Saturday at Wallace Wade Stadium. Canty’s career-high three tackles for a loss helped Duke stymie the Cavalier offense in the second half, keeping Virginia off the scoreboard for the final 30 minutes of the game.

Canty leads the Blue Devils in tackles with 53 on the season, 19 more tackles than second-place Cockrell and 25 more than third-place Brandon Braxton. He is also tied with defensive lineman Kenny Anunike for the team lead in tackles for a loss with 5.5.
