BREAKING: Duke safety August Campbell leaves team

In a week in which Duke was decimated by injuries in its 34-27 victory over Wake Forest, the Blue Devils received news that they would incur a more permanent loss.

Head coach David Cutcliffe announced in his Sunday teleconference that safety August Campbell has left the team for personal reasons. Cutcliffe added that Campbell will remain enrolled as a student at Duke.

"He is in school but will not play football for personal reasons. We will just leave that at that," Cutcliffe said. "He's leaving for his personal reasons, not ours. He had personal issues that he's leaving football for."

Campbell did not practice last week and did not travel with the team to this week's victory against Wake Forest. After battling injuries in the season's early-going, Campbell suited up in two games for the Blue Devils, recording six tackles, including one for a loss, and recovering a fumble.
