Nolan Smith returns to Twitter after Summer League scare

You know Nolan Smith must not be feeling well if he's not tweeting–but after a 24-hour hiatus, he's back.

After being carried off the court on a stretcher at the end of the Portland Trail Blazers' loss to the Houston Rockets in the Las Vegas Summer League, Smith tweeted for the first time Wednesday afternoon to let his followers know he was doing just fine. "Twitter family!! Thank you for all your prayers!! I appreciate it, and I'm fine!! Blessed to have love and support from y'all!!"

Smith was in the midst of his best game of the summer, scoring 27 points and adding five rebounds and five assists on 10-of-16 shooting, when he collided with Houston's Zoran Dragic on a drive to the lane. Smith took an elbow to the head from Dragic and ran headfirst into the base of the basket, taking a few steps away from the court before he collapsed to the floor.

Portland's medical staff and teammate Wesley Matthews rushed quickly to his side, where Smith was able to move his extremities but not his head or neck, according to The Oregonian's Jason Quick. Smith was then taken off the court on a stretcher and rushed to a Las Vegas area hospital, where he underwent a CT scan, which the Trail Blazers tweeted was normal. The team tweeted two hours later when he was released from the hospital, stating that it was "doubtful" he would return to action for the remainder of Summer League play.

The last 42.9 seconds of the game were suspended after Smith was removed from the court. Houston was declared the winner by a score of 99-88.

Thoughts and prayers from supporters on Twitter were aplenty in the minutes following Smith's collapse. Former Duke teammate Lance Thomas joined Smith's family at the hospital and alerted the public not to be alarmed, tweeting "My boy @NdotSmitty is okay people ! Send him your best wishes please !"
