Firefighter linked to six robberies

A firefighter accused of eight robberies or attempted robberies in the last six weeks has been fired from his post at the Durham Fire Department.

Damon Quick, 35, was arrested Tuesday night by Durham police officers during am attempted robbery at the Dollar Tree on Guess Road, according to a release from the Durham Police Department. Quick had been employed as a firefighter since August 2003, and was making around $40,000 annually at the time of his arrest.

Quick’s recent robberies occurred at a variety of locations in Durham county, including Domino’s Pizza on Main Street, which delivers to Duke’s campus. The robber, wearing a green goblin-style mask and a hoodie in all incidents, stole cash and personal items from businesses and employees.

The arrest of Quick is part of an ongoing investigation including the Durham Police Department, the Durham County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

The charges against Quick include 19 counts of second-degree kidnapping, 11 counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon, two counts of attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, seven counts of assault by pointing a gun, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and two counts of communicating threats. He is being held in Durham County Jail under a $9 million bond.
