Muhammad and Parker to announce their college decisions Wednesday night; Oriakhi to visit Duke

This week promises to be one of the more eventful weeks for Duke men's basketball recruiting in quite some time. On Wednesday night, the coaching staff will have a much better idea about what their 2012-13 roster will look like as highly coveted targets Shabazz Muhammad and Tony Parker announce their college decisions.

Muhammad—who will decide between Duke, UCLA and Kentucky—is coming off a dominating performance at the Nike Hoops Summit, where he scored a game-record 35 points. Most recruiting experts predict Kentucky or UCLA to land the 6-foot-6 swingman, but Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski was in Las Vegas Sunday evening to pay one more in-home visit to Muhammad.

Parker will decide between Ohio State, Duke, Kansas, Georgia and UCLA. The 6-foot-9, 260 pound post player has been one of the most difficult recruits to read in recent memory. The Blue Devils are thought to be in Parker’s top three, along with UCLA and Kansas; however, Mason Plumlee’s unknown status in relation to the NBA may deter Parker from Duke.

Duke signee Rasheed Sulaimon finished with 3 points and 2 steals at the Nike Hoop Summit last Saturday night. Despite his statistically underwhelming performance, Sulaimon’s stellar defense in the second half allowed the U.S. team to close the gap on the World team, who ended up defeating the U.S. by a score of 84-75. While at the event, Sulaimon was officially measured at 6-foot-4 and one quarter of an inch in shoes with a 6-foot-8 wingspan. After watching Sulaimon all week, Jonathan Givony of Draft Express called the future Blue Devil combo guard a “sure-fire pro.”

Blue Devil target Amile Jefferson is still weighing his options and has not announced when he will choose a school. The Philadelphia product will choose between Duke, Kentucky, N.C. State and Villanova.

According to various reports, former Connecticut forward Alex Oriakhi will visit Duke, North Carolina, Kentucky and Missouri. The 6-foot-9 power forward will be eligible for the 2012-13 season due to Connecticut’s postseason ban. Given that the SEC does not allow one-year transfers, Oriakhi would have to file for an academic waiver to gain eligibility if he were to choose Kentucky or Missouri. Oriakhi has not set up a date yet for when he will visit Duke, but he plans to visit Missouri the weekend of April 13^th and Kentucky the following weekend according to NBCsports.com.

After this week look for the Duke coaching staff to turn their focus to the class of 2013. Clint Jackson of rivals.com tweeted last week that Duke target Jabari Parker, who is the top ranked player in the class, will announce his college decision in the fall. The Blue Devils, Michigan State and Washington are thought to be some of the leaders at this point for Parker. Fresh off leading Simeon High School to its third straight state championship, Parker began his AAU season with the Mac Irvin Fire over the weekend.
