Capra wins multiple ACC honors

Freshman Beatrice Capra has been named the ACC's player of the year and freshman of the year.

Capra, a native of Ellicott City, Md., is currently the second-ranked player in the country. She has led Blue Devils, who sit atop the ACC undefeated at 11-0, to a 22-2 overall record. The team will compete in this weekend's ACC Championships as the No. 1 seed.

Capra has an individual record of 24-3 this season as a singles player, and is a perfect 9-0 in ACC play. She has won 15 of her 18 singles matches against ranked opponents. Capra also teams up with fellow all-ACC selection Rachel Kahan as a formidable doubles pairing. Capra and Kahan are 16-5 playing together this season. Capra's overall doubles record in 2012 is 28-8.

Capra was named ACC player of the week five times this seasonĀ and is just the fourth player to win ACC player of the year and freshman of the year in the same season. In addition to Capra, three other Duke players were named to the all-ACC team. The aforementioned Kahan, who was reigning ACC freshman of the year, received her second consecutive selection.

Sophomore Hanna Mar and freshman Ester Goldfeld were also named to the team for the first time. Capra and Goldfeld were the only two freshmen selected.
