Despite holding a lead entering the 7th inning, Duke fell to UNC Greensboro 4-3 yesterday afternoon at Jack Coombs Field.
Trailing 3-2, the Spartans (18-13) knocked two runs home in that seventh inning, both credited to relief pitcher Dillon Haviland who was charged with his first loss of the season. In his 1.1 innings of duty, Haviland allowed three hits and three runs, though just two of them were earned.
The Blue Devils (13-21) committed four errors in the contest, two of which were by Haviland.
Duke shortstop Angelo La Bruna did not register a hit but added two of the team’s three runs batted in.
Notably, star Duke pitcher Marcus Stroman entered the game as a pinch runner and stole a base. This marks the Blue Devils’ fourth consecutive loss, and they will look to turn it around this weekend with a three-game set at Maryland.
