Williams explodes in win over Demon Deacons

On a day when Duke announced freshman Amber Henson would miss the rest of the season after leg surgery, classmate Elizabeth Williams picked up the slack as the Blue Devils beat Wake Forest 76-58 Friday night at Lawrence Joel Coliseum.

Williams scored 18 points, grabbed 16 rebounds and blocked a conference-record 12 shots for her first career triple-double. Haley Peters added 12 points and six boards for Duke (11-2, 2-0 in the ACC), which outrebounded the Demon Deacons 57-36.

Shay Selby and Richa Jackson also added nine points each.

Lakevia Boykin kept the game close with 25 points on 10-for-24 shooting—including 5-of-9 from 3-point range—for Wake Forest (10-4, 0-1), but the Demon Deacon bench players shot just 1-for-27 as the team scored at just a 28.6-percent clip. In contrast, the Blue Devils made 45.6 percent of their shots, highlighted by Williams' 6-for-13 performance, though they also had 28 turnovers.

The win marks the 36th straight time that Duke has beaten Wake Forest.
