After Mitch McGary’s verbal commitment to Michigan last Thursday, the Duke coaching staff will focus on Shabazz Muhammad and Tony Parker to round out the 2012 recruiting class.
According to Adam Zagoria, Shabazz Muhammad will take an official visit to Duke on March 3rd for the Duke-UNC game. Visiting for the biggest home game of the year should help Duke’s chances to land the top-ranked player in 2012.
Muhammad’s high school team, Bishop Gorman, is ranked seventh in the nation according to the Five Star Basketball preseason rankings. Bishop Gorman will play against national powers Findlay Prep, Mater Dei and Dematha Catholic this season.
Parker, meanwhile, is expected to announce his college destination soon. The five star big man has taken four official visits to Ohio State, UCLA, Memphis and most recently Duke. Parker has not ruled out the idea of taking his fifth and final official visit. Kansas is reportedly trying to re-enter Parker’s recruitment after missing out on their top 2012 big-man target, Kaleb Tarczewski, who committed to Arizona last week. Ohio State and Duke are thought to be the leaders for Parker.
Duke fans will have an opportunity to see Rasheed Sulaimon, Duke’s lone commit for 2012, play this winter. Sulaimon’s high school team, Strake Jesuit, will play in Raleigh at Broughton High School for the Holiday Invitational Tournament December 28th-30th.
In an interview with The Chronicle on Sunday night, Sulaimon confirmed he will be back at Duke on March 3rd for the Duke-UNC game.
Sulaimon will sign his letter of intent this Wednesday.
In other news: TJ Warren’s commitment to North Carolina State last week gives Mark Gottfried the tenth best 2012 recruiting class at this time according to scout.com. Warren will join former Duke recruit Rodney Purvis and four-star point guard Tyler Lewis in Raleigh next season.
