According to a report by Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, former Blue Devil Kyle Singler will elect to play for Spain's Real Madrid rather than return stateside to the Detroit Pistons when the NBA lockout ends.
Singler had played for Alicante, a team in the Spanish ACB League like Real Madrid, during the lockout, and the results were promising—the forward averaged a team leading 15 points on 47 percent shooting. Singler will likely make more in Spain than he would have as a second-round pick in the NBA.
Singler will probably return to the United States next season, and the Pistons will retain his rights until then. Detroit has reportedly been impressed with Singler and even sent front-office staff to scout him in Spain despite their inability to talk to him per NBA rules. Singler was expected to earn playing time for the Pistons as the team makes a concerted effort to go younger after back-to-back years missing the playoffs.
