Another year and another top recruiting class for Joanne P. McCallie and the women's basketball program.
According to a press release on GoDuke.com, the Blue Devils officially signed three players to letters of intent during the early signing period. All three players are ranked within the top-100 by ESPN.com's HoopGurlz, with the class ranked the fifth-best in the nation and tops in the ACC.
“I’m extremely excited about this class," McCallie said in the release. "They all fit in special ways with the team and they all are very high character women, who aspire excellence both academically as well as athletically. They are terrific fits for Duke."
The trio is headlined by 5-foot-8 point guard Alexis Jones, ranked No. 3 in the nation and the second-best point guard. The Irving, Texas native is heralded for the quickness and athleticism that she brings to the court. Jones is the third top-five recruit in as many years for Duke, which added No. 2 Elizabeth Williams this year and No. 4 Chelsea Gray in the class of 2010.
Rounding out the rest of the group, McCallie adds 5-foot-11 wing Sierra Moore and 6-foot-4 forward Katie Heckman. Ranked No. 49 and No. 79 respectively, the two make it the third consecutive year that McCallie has brought in three or more top-100 recruits.
