Making the Grade: Duke vs. Wake Forest

Offense:

Pass: B-

Sean Renfree followed up a 226 yard performance against Florida State with 213 yards, completing 28 of 45 pass attempts, but not throwing any touchdowns against Wake Forest. Renfree’s sole interception came in the last minute of play on Duke’s last possession of the game, which ensured Wake of a victory. When Anthony Boone stepped in, he completed 1-of-2 pass attempts for a total of 11 yards.

Rush: B+

Juwan Thompson led the Blue Devil rushing game gaining a total of 66 yards on his 11 attempts. Desmond Scott also recorded an impressive rush game totaling 51 yards on 10 attempts.

X’s and O’s:

Renfree improved on his average yardage per pass attempt against Wake Forest, averaging 7.6 yards per attempt as opposed to the five he averaged last week against the Seminoles. Connor Vernon led the Duke offensive game with seven receptions and was efficient in weaving through Wake Forest’s secondary totaling up 59 yards.

Defense:

Pass: C+

Demon Deacon quarterback Tanner Price completed 15 of his 25 pass attempts for a total of 215 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Rush: C+

The Blue Devils allowed a total of 117 rushing yards against Wake Forest. Price rushed for an impressive 50 yards while redshirt senior Brandon Pendergrass rushed for 49 on 15 attempts. Wide receiver Chris Givens rushed once for an impressive 13 yards.

X’s and O’s:

Wake Forest’s 215 receiving yards were surprisingly less than Duke’s 224 yards. However, redshirt junior wide receiver Chris Givens sliced through the Blue Devil secondary totaling an impressive 147 yards on six receptions. The Blue Devils did however limit the Demon Deacon production in the second half, allowing only 81 yards.

Special teams: B+

Will Snyderwine had an impressive performance Saturday against Wake Forest completing all three of his field goal attempts, his longest coming in the third quarter for 38 yards.
