To the Editor:
Your headline “Trustee Hassell charged with defrauding clients” on Friday, Oct. 7, is at best, willfully ignorant, and at worst, defamatory.
Bank of New York Mellon Corp. is the only defendant in civil complaints filed this week. Gerald Hassell, Trinity ’73, recently appointed as chairman and CEO of Bank of New York Mellon Corp. has not been accused of any wrongful conduct—civil or criminal—and it is outrageous and unfair for your headline to suggest otherwise.
An apology and clarification are in order.
Sincerely,
Stuart Barr
