As the NBA lockout drags on towards the September 15 date on which pre-season activities will officially be canceled, players are finding new ways to get on the court. Several different NBA stars—including Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Durant—have assembled groups of their peers to compete on a more informal level while the lockout continues.
And now Nolan Smith is getting in on the action. Former BYU star and Utah Jazz draft choice Jimmer Fredette is hosting a two-game showcase in his home state of Utah for 2011 draft picks, and Smith said today on Twitter that he would participate.
Former Connecticut star Kemba Walker will also headline the player list, and Fredette expects to add other recognizable names to the list for his so-called "Jimmer's All-Stars." Former UCLA small forward Tyler Honeycutt and ex-Washington point guard Isaiah Thomas have also signed on.
The games will be held Wednesday, September 21 at the Maverik Center in Salt Lake City and Thursday, September 22 at the Marriott Center in Provo.
