Dick Groat was inducted into the National College Baseball Hall of Fame over the weekend, one of seven inductees in the 2011 class.
Groat was a two-time All-American at Duke in both baseball and basketball, leading the Blue Devils to their first College World Series in 1952.
"I was a better basketball player," Groat told MLB.com. "I don't know if I deserve this, but I'm just thrilled to death to be inducted."
Groat won the National League Most Valuable Player award in 1960 with the World Series champion Pittsburgh Pirates. He also won the 1964 World Series with the St. Louis Cardinals.
Other inductees included Boston Red Sox manager Terry Francona, who played in the outfield for Arizona from 1978-80, former Arizona State outfielder Oddibe McDowell and Ralph Waldo Emerson Jones, who coached Grambling State for over fifty years.
