Duke recruit Elizabeth Williams has been chosen for the USA Basketball Women's U19 World Championship team, according to a Sunday press release.
Williams, the No. 2 overall recruit in the incoming 2011 class according to ESPN's HoopGurlz, earned one of 12 spots on the squad after a week-long training camp in Florida. The 6-foot-3 Virginia Beach, Va., native was a dominant force in the paint in an exhibition game against Brazil over the weekend, scoring a team-high 15 points while also racking up six rebounds, five blocks, two assists and a steal en route to a 49-37 victory.
The team will have a few weeks off before gathering for a five-day training camp at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., starting July 11.
Then, from July 21-31, Williams will try to bring the United States a fourth-straight gold medal at the U19 World Championship in Puerto Montt and Puerto Varas, Chile.
Williams is no stranger to international competition, having already won a gold medal for the United States m at the 2009 FIBA Americas U16 Championships in Mexico City.
