Currently, no former Blue Devils play quarterback in the National Football League. But, Duke head coach David Cutcliffe has sent a number of quarterbacks to the NFL in the past—and one paid a visit to Durham last week.
With the NFL's owners currently locking out the players until they can agree upon a new collective bargaining agreement, New York Giants' quarterback Eli Manning came down to practice at Duke, visiting the home turf of his former coach at Ole Miss.
According to the Newark Star-Ledger, Manning worked out at Duke with wide receivers Hakeem Nicks and Jerrel Jernigan. Nicks, entering his third year in the league, played in college merely a few miles away at North Carolina for three seasons.
Manning played at Ole Miss from 2000-2003 under Cutcliffe. Manning chose to play to for Cutcliffe due to the success he'd had with his older brother, Peyton, who Cutcliffe worked with at Tennessee as an assistant.
