The Inter-Greek Council found all three candidates for DSG president as well as the two candidates for DSG EVP to be extremely qualified for these positions. However, Isaac Mizrahi and Patrick Oathout impressed the IGC the most by effectively communicating and aligning their future visions for DSG with the inherent issues, goals and mission of the IGC.
The IGC is first and foremost a multicultural greek council composed of ethnically and racially diverse chapters with the common goal of uniting all non-traditional greek organizations on campus. We were extremely impressed with Mizrahi’s scope of experience and initiative with minority issues in the greater Duke community. Not only did he show a deep understanding of the role of multiculturalism and diversity but also his dedication and commitment to truly understand and confront the hardships often faced by underrepresented groups through his leadership role in the Greek Women’s Initiative. More importantly, Mizrahi knows that the DSG could improve with respect to representation of the entire student body, and proposes the creation of positions within the DSG for minority organizations. This is an initiative the IGC wholeheartedly embraces.
With respect to the position of DSG EVP, Patrick Oathout has shown his dedication to greek life in the past, even as a non-affiliate. As a senator for academic affairs, he has personally met with the IGC Executive Board to discuss the potential for greek-affirming DSG legislation to pay homage to its integral role within the campus community. In addition, Patrick openly advocates the creation of a committee within DSG specifically for greek organizations to promote the very collaboration that has been lacking in the past.
Although there were many qualified candidates for the position of DSG president and EVP this year, the IGC fully endorses Isaac Mizrahi and Patrick Oathout with utmost confidence in their abilities to lead DSG down a path beneficial to the entire Duke community.
