The Incredible Disappearing Andre Dawkins

Notice Andre Dawkins in Duke's recent games? You're not the only one who hasn't. Dawkins has seemingly fallen off the map for Duke recently, and the numbers back at it up:

2/5, N.C. State: 1-for-6, 3 points, 1 assists, 3 rebounds, 26 minutes

2/9, North Carolina: 1-for-3, 3 points, 0 assists, 0 rebounds, 15 minutes

2/13, Miami: 0-for-4, 0 points, 0 assists, 1 rebounds, 13 minutes

2/16, Virginia: 1-for-3, 3 points, 0 assists, 3 rebounds, 26 minutes

2/20, Georgia Tech: 0-for-2, 0 points, 1 assists, 0 rebounds, 9 minutes

His minutes have similarly fallen. After upwards of 30 minutes for many of Duke's early season games, Dawkins has seen his minutes fluctuate wildly lately and is only averaging 18.2 minutes per game in Duke's last nine contests. And when he plays, it's not always good news: Dawkins is shooting 29 percent over those last nine.

There is hope for Dawkins, though. The guard still ranks at No. 3 in the ACC in Ken Pomeroy's offensive efficiency rankings, behind only N.C. State's Scott Wood and Boston College's Corey Raji (Dawkins led that category by a large margin in the fall). And the sophomore proved himself a capable scorer and defender during Duke's early season slate. It'll be interesting if that Dawkins shows up anytime in the near future.

What do you think accounts for Dawkins's slump? Curry's emergence as a starter, a shooting slump, or something else? Leave your comments below.
