Senior Nolan Smith was selected to Sporting News' midseason All-American team on Wednesday because of his performance for Duke in the first half of the season.
Smith leads the team in points and assists, averaging 18.6 per game and 5.1 per game respectively. Smith has been particularly effective as a distributer—earning the nickname "The Facilitator"—since Kyrie Irving's injury. In the five games Irving has missed, Smith is averaging 6.6 assists per game.
Smith has continued to be effective as a scorer, averaging 20 points per game over that stretch. He was named ACC player of the week for his performances against UNC-Greensboro and Miami in Duke's last two games.
