Many Duke students may have seen the recent CNN publication that listed Durham as the best place to retire in America. After all, the city contains a world-renowned university that has plenty of learning opportunities, alongside a rich collection of artistic and historical attractions. What people may not be aware of is the presence of a large-scale retirement community right next to Duke’s campus.
The retirement community, The Forest at Duke, has existed for over 25 years and boasts a staff of 275. For those of you reading this who are thinking about retirement in Durham, you have the option of signing up on a Future Residency Priority list to book your spot—three to five years down the line, that is.
You’ll be able to enjoy spending your golden years in one or two-bedroom apartments or cottages with the Forest’s 400 current residents, free to take classes at Duke and enjoy the award-winning care of the retirement center.
Just be sure you are extremely familiar with your financial situation; the entry fee for The Forest at Duke ranges from $90,000 to a whopping $300,000, plus monthly costs of $2400 to $4000. But that’s what your kids are for, right?
