Senior Kyle Singler was named Sporting News' 2010 College Athlete of the Year Wednesday afternoon based on his performance last season with No. 1 Duke.
Singler, who chose to forgo the 2010 NBA Draft and instead stay with Blue Devils, earned the MVP title in the 2010 ACC Tournament and was named Final Four Most Outstanding Player in Indianapolis.
The senior is making a push for this year's title, as well, and will likely see his numbers rise with point guard Kyrie Irving sidelined. The Medford, Ore. native is averaging 16.3 points per game this season, including tying a career-high 30 points against his brother E.J. Singler in Oregon. He is shooting 45.5 percent from the field--compared to last year's 41.5 percent--and 36.4 percent from beyond the arc.
