Summit on Gender Relations
To the Student Body:
It seems that every day, our student body is being dragged through another scandal. Our own campus culture, which is a very personal thing for us, is under the nation’s microscope. It’s time to regroup. As we move forward, we must continue to look inward for ways to create the campus culture we want.
In this spirit, we would like to invite you to attend the first student Summit on Gender Relations next week. The three-day Summit is tasked with creating an actionable plan for addressing the challenge of gender inequity at Duke.
The schedule is as follows:
Monday (Nov. 15) 6-8 p.m./Old Trinity Room: Women-Only Working Group
Tuesday (Nov. 16) 6-8 p.m./Soc Psych 127: Men-Only Working Group
Wednesday (Nov. 17) 6-8 p.m./McClendon 5: Working Groups Convene
The Monday and Tuesday sessions are split by gender to foster the most open discourse, while the Wednesday session will bring both groups together to share their findings and engage in broader dialogue. We ask that only those who have attended a gender session participate in Wednesday’s exchange.
Though the sessions themselves will be confidential and off-the-record, the action plans that result will be made public to the entire student body. The event is open to everyone, but space is limited so please plan to arrive early.
We look forward to three engaging nights of conversation.
Yours faithfully,
Mike Lefevre
