Kyle Singler and Nolan Smith will be on the USA Men's Select Team that will train against Kevin Durant, Rajon Rondo and the rest of the USA National team later this month in New York.
The decision to bring Singler and Smith to New York was not exactly unexpected—both did well in Las Vegas when training against the World Team early last month. ESPN's Fran Fraschilla even called Singler the "most complete player" of any of the collegiate athletes in Vegas.
Their good play was not a guarantee, though, that they would make the trip to New York. Duke fans will be happy to note that North Carolina's Tyler Zeller, for instance, was not deemed worth of training against the USA National team.
USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo liked using Singler, Smith and the rest of the college athletes in Vegas, and he said he is excited for them to play in New York.
"One of the great developments of our Las Vegas camp was the USA Select Team which consisted of juniors and seniors out of the college ranks that we brought in to scrimmage against the USA National Team," Colangelo said in a statement. "It worked so well we've decided to bring to New York a smaller group of players from that Select Team to do the same thing. They were very valuable to us, and it's a great experience for them."
