Tonight after Game 3 of the NBA Finals, ABC's "Nightline" will run a sitdown with head coach Mike Krzyzewski, where, as evidenced by the following excerpt of the interview, the coach will yet again be asked if he plans to ever jump to the NBA.
John Berman: You're coaching here next year?
Coach K: Yeah, I'm coaching here forever -- for as long as I coach.Berman: What about going to the NBA?
Coach K: No, I'm not going to the NBA.
Berman: Not next year?
Coach K: Not ever.
Berman: Not ever?
Coach K: Not ever.
Berman: This is a sure statement that you are not going to the NBA ever.
Coach K: Ever.
ABC also promises comments from Krzyzewski on the situation that currently befalls Connecticut head coach Jim Calhoun. (As the two are friends, don't expect a harsh condemnation from Krzyzewski.)
There's no word yet as to whether the interview will touch on the article released today by the (Raleigh) News & Observer, detailing the particulars of Krzyzewski's salary. According to open records the paper used, Krzyzewski is now the highest-paid coach in college basketball, raking in $4.19 million in salary and incentives last year— a number triple the amount of his salary just four years ago. The news is so recent that a question touching on his pay is unlikely. But, regardless of what questions will be asked, a long sitdown with Krzyzewski is still a rare thing in the sports media world. We'll be watching.
