Irving, Hairston to play for USA U18 team

Incoming freshmen Kyrie Irving and Josh Hairston will play for the United States U18 team in the FIBA Americas Championship, held June 26-30, a USA Basketball press release said.

The roster, which also includes highly touted Duke recruits Austin Rivers and Quincy Miller, was finalized yesterday after four trials sessions were held in San Antonio. The championship later this month will be held on the campus of St. Mary's University.

Jeff Capel, who played for Duke from 1993-1997 (enjoy this), will coach the team, while Paul Hewitt will serve as an assistant. Capel is currently the head coach at Oklahoma; Hewitt still coaches the Yellow Jackets at Georgia Tech.

“I like the make-up of our team,” Capel said. “We have really good talent. We have versatility. We have guys who can really defend. We have good athleticism, guys who can score. I’m excited about coaching this group. I’m excited about seeing what we can become over these next few days.”
