Parsons played under Eddie Cameron, better known as the namesake for Cameron Indoor, from 1938-40, leading Duke to a 44-28 record and scoring 226 points during his career. At Duke's first win in their new stadium, then called Duke Indoor Stadium, he scored four points as captain and led his team to a 36-27 victory over Princeton.
Parsons also served as a commander in the U.S. Navy, serving in the Pacific during World War II, and he was a nationally ranked badminton and tennis player, winning more than 560 tournaments with the Middle States Lawn & Tennis Association.
