Some students will have to wait an extra day for confirmation on their Gothic campus rooms.
In an e-mail to East Meets West candidates Thursday night, Jen Frank, assistant director of accommodations for Residence Life and Housing Services, said that the housing registration window was closed due to a “technical problem.”
Students looking to take part in East Meets West—West Campus housing for independents who choose not to block—will instead make their selections today.
“We are going to reboot the system and see if we can get things up and running,” Frank said in the e-mail. “We will e-mail you again as soon as we have an update on when you’ll be able to pick.”
The East Meets West window opened at 8 p.m., but was misconfigured as a result of an incorrect date in the schedule, Frank said. The problem was attended to in a timely fashion, but students’ repeated attempts to access the system during the glitch slowed the network. Although most East Meets West candidates could not log in to the system, some managed to make selections out of sequence, Frank added.
The prior selection window for Substance Free housing opened at 7 p.m. without problems and will not be affected. Previously scheduled RoomPicks windows for today will remain unaffected as well.
RLHS will reset the system for RoomPicks beginning at 5:30 p.m. today and all selections made during Thursday’s window for East Meets West will be cleared.
“We feel this is the most appropriate course of action to ensure the process is fair for everyone,” Frank said.
Despite the last-minute turn of events, East Meets West candidates said they were mostly unconcerned with the delay. Freshman Anne Johnson said her new 6:10 p.m. registration window today will give her a chance to scout out the rooms available, something she did not have the time to do before.
Freshman Alex Graff noted that the delay was not a large nuisance, though he did lose an hour waiting for his registration window to function.
“It’s not like it’s going to interfere with the big Duke game, so it’s not a huge hassle if it’s today or tomorrow,” he said.
