It is necessary that DSG addresses the needs of women on campus and is aware of their presence. Though women’s interests do not appear to be a priority issue on any candidate’s platform this year, we sincerely hope that whomever is elected takes into consideration the needs of 50 percent of the student body.
The Duke Panhellenic Association is the largest student organization on campus representing women’s issues, both greek and independent. As such, we are pleased to endorse Gregory Morrison for DSG president and Pete Schork for DSG executive vice president.
Morrison has worked to make DSG more efficient in addressing students’ concerns, and he seeks to develop a long-term vision for the Duke community as a whole. His plans to utilize the results of the Socioeconomic Diversity Initiative, re-instate the President’s Council on Women and address the space problems facing Panhellenic women demonstrate that he has a sincere understanding of what our diverse campus community needs.
Schork has demonstrated a passion for improving the quality of life for students on campus, working on issues ranging from dining to parking. He aspires to increase DSG Senate productivity and efficacy, expand student involvement in administrative decisions affecting campus life and re-examine the Women’s Initiative with greater scrutiny to take further action on its findings.
The Panhellenic Executive Council is confident that these candidates will work to represent women and women’s issues on campus, and strive to improve campus life at Duke.
Bogna Brzezinska President, Panhellenic Association Trinity ’11
