The Black Student Alliance is proud to endorse Will Passo and Jane Moore for president and executive vice president of Duke Student Government, respectively.
For president, Passo demonstrated a genuine and informed knowledge of issues not only pertaining to Duke’s undergraduate population as a whole, but specifically the black undergraduate community. We appreciated his passion for issues such as campus equality, the Black Student Alliance Invitational, the Multicultural Center-International House merger, increasing racial and socioeconomic diversity on West Campus and improving Central Campus conditions. We were especially impressed by Passo’s commitment to the preservation of BSAI weekend and trust that as president, he would most effectively represent, communicate and advocate on behalf of black students with regard to these issues.
For executive vice president, we believe that Moore possesses the managerial and leadership skills necessary to properly navigate the legislative process. Additionally, we are confident that Moore’s past experience and personable but disciplined disposition will allow her to efficiently preside over the Senate. Lastly, Moore’s dedication to accountability within DSG has convinced us that she will be able to effectively follow through with her platform to the best of her ability.
We strongly believe that both Passo and Moore possess the most vital and promising skills and visions necessary to represent the best interests of Duke undergraduates, and we encourage students to vote for these candidates in the March 30 election.
Nana Asante President-elect, Black Student Alliance Trinity ’12
