As sorority presidents, we were thrilled to read The Chronicle’s Feb. 3 article, “Long push for sorority housing ends,” as it shows an understanding of the historical and contemporary issues of the Panhel space debate. We have every hope that the space on Central Campus will benefit our sisterhoods and Panhellenic unity; however, our long push for space is not over. In fact, our work is just beginning.
The Central housing, while a positive step, is what The Chronicle’s editorial board has called a “stop-gap” measure. Our Panhellenic organizations still face obstacles in reserving rooms for recruitment and other large-scale events, issues that will not be fixed by the two common rooms on Central.
We encourage future Panhellenic presidents and University officials to continue the conversation begun last fall, and to find new ways to address the needs of the largest female organization on campus.
