Coming off a convincing 79-59 win over ACC-foe Boston College Wednesday, the Blue Devils (14-2, 2-1 in the ACC) will look for their third conference win when they face Wake Forest (14-2, 2-1) tonight at 8 p.m. Here are three things to know before Duke takes the court tonight:
1. Wake Forest has found a way to replace James Johnson and Jeff Teague, who both left for the NBA after last season. Al-Farouq Aminu has come into his own as a sophomore and is averaging 17.3 points and 11.7 rebounds per contest, and Ishmael Smith has successfully taken over the point guard duties. The guard has more than doubled his scoring average of 6.2 points per game from last season and is dishing out a career-high 6 assists per contest.
2. If the first ten games inside Cameron this year are any predictor of tonight's contest, don't expect a close game. The Blue Devils are 10-0 at home so far this season, with nine of those wins by coming by 20 points or more. The one victory by less than 20: a dominating 19 point win over St. John's.
3. Be reminded that Jon Scheyer has been really good. The senior is the only player in the country to be averaging at least 19.0 points and 6.0 assists per game and turns the ball over just once every 27 minutes. If that weren't enough, Tim Crothers of the ACC Sports Journal came out with a column this week entitled "Scheyer’s Cover Is Blown". (Because, you know, without that column no one would have realized that Scheyer has been really good so far that season, right?)
