Duke continued its astounding winning streak against Wake Forest Sunday at Cameron Indoor Stadium, as the Blue Devils pulled out a 65-51 victory for their 33rd straight win in the series.
Duke (14-2, 2-0 in the ACC) led early in late in this one, and the Blue Devils had built a 20-point lead by halftime. The team was led Sunday by senior Bridgette Mitchell, who scored 20 points and collected nine rebounds. Guard Jasmine Thomas added 13 points.
The Demon Deacons (10-6, 1-1) were outrebounded 52-30 overall and gave up 22 offensive rebounds in the contest. They were also undone by a 19-0 Duke run late in the first period that lasted over 12 minutes.
"I really liked the first half, the rebounding, Bridgette Mitchell's effort and energy, Jasmine Thomas' consistency in running things," head coach Joanne P. McCallie said. "In the first half I thought that we executed beautifully and really made some good points offensively and defensively."
With yet another win over Wake Forest in the books, Duke now enters a very demanding stretch on its schedule. The Blue Devils travel to Coral Gables, Fla. for a date with Miami, which just defeated No. 11 Florida State, this coming Thursday. Duke then hosts undefeated UConn, the nation's No. 1 team, Jan. 18.
