Freshman guard Andre Dawkins' sister, Lacey Dawkins, and his biological mother, Tamara Hill, were involved in a multiple car crash on their way to watch Duke play St. John's Saturday. Lacey Dawkins, 21, passed away later that afternoon due to injuries suffered in the accident.
"We are deeply saddened by the loss of Andre's sister, Lacey," Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski said. "Andre is a terrific young man and his family is very important to him. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Dawkins family during this trying time."
Dawkins is on leave to be with his family.
